By Eliana Barriga Publisher and Managing Editor for The Retail Observer Summer is all about feeding the senses—the sights, smells, sounds, tastes and feeling of the season. A favorite pastime for me is slipping away to my favorite local shops on the hunt for my next treasure. It’s a time when I am ready to try new things and take chances with my décor. I want to see colorful appliances and gadgets to brighten up my kitchen. I want to see waterproof electronics that will allow me to capture every moment with my granddaughter by the pool. I want to see the latest textures and designs for my reading chair that will fit just perfectly by an open bay window. I’m looking for those stylish planters to give my entryway some new curb appeal. I’m looking for inspiration! I’m on the hunt, and want to find products that are quirky and fun. It’s a time to rekindle the nostalgia of summers past spent at the beach, camping by the lake and eating ice cream on the boardwalk. A time to remind me of my last trip to Paris, a family vacation in the Caribbean, hiking in the Peruvian Andes. It’s a time to stir my sense of adventure, of wishes and dreams to skydive, take that trip to Dubai, go on an Alaskan cruise and take a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. I want to be delighted and surprised as I walk down every aisle of your store because, YES, I could be out enjoying the beautiful summer day; instead, I am choosing to play in your store, allowing you to take me away with a selection of products and accessories that will fulfill my every need and desire for living the good life! Happy Summer, Eliana Barriga [email protected]
