Samsung confirmed last month that it had acquired luxury home appliance company Dacor. The California-based company is best known for its professional-quality cooking ranges for homes as well as its in-home ventilation hoods. Samsung didn’t immediately reveal why it had decided to acquire Dacor. It was initially said that following the completion of this acquisition Dacor would instantly start operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics America while maintaining its corporate identity and brand. Dacor will continue its US-based manufacturing operations as well. However, the purpose was made clear at IFA 2016 where a company official reveal precisely what Samsung is planning on doing with its latest purchase.

Microsoft Windows 10 isn't just taking over the computers, now they are also conquering the appliances. LG finally introduced their newest refrigerator and it is the coolest thing that you will ever see. LG has always been known as one of the best brands in appliances even before they entered the smartphone industry. Though LG has come up with really cool gadgets, most of them were considered rather sub par compared to other smartphones sold out there. LG's new fridge swept away Samsung, and they call it the LG Smart Instaview. Apple and Samsung may win the smartphone technology amd industry, but LG takes the crown in the appliances department. Microsoft has added another wrinkle to an idea that refuses to die: the 'net-connected refrigerator. Thankfully, Redmond has skipped the idea of putting a browser on the fridge. Instead, drawing on Silicon Valley's conviction that everybody is a 23-year-old software developer who can't cook, clean house, or shop without help, it's the old “your fridge will write your shopping list” model. Microsoft will work with appliance maker Liebherr to put a camera in the refrigerator, send the images off to the cloud, run them through a machine learning algorithm, and send a reminder to an app if you're at the shops and don't have milk on your shopping list. The vendor opened the research center last year near the home turf of GE Appliances but has since outgrown the facility. A new 30,000-square-foot building housing labs, offices, engineering areas, test space, and an expanded team of 60 is set to open in January. “Today marks the latest push by Midea to grow our presence here in Kentucky and in the U.S. market,” Midea Amercia president Jim Tomaszewski said at a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday. “We know our success in this market is wholly dependent on developing compelling products for the U.S. consumer. That’s why Midea invests 3 percent of global revenue in R&D every year, and why we are investing in our R&D footprint here in the U.S.” CategoriesPR NEWSWIRE

There’s a new wave of smart kitchen gadgets that not only help do the cooking: they also help consumers make healthier choices. “We live in a world of fast, convenient, and easy,” said Amber Smith, a registered dietitian. “So I think a lot of these gadgets help accommodate changing lifestyles.”There’s the Pantelligent, which is a frying pan that connects to an app and uses an auto-pilot to control a food’s temperature. Then there’s the Egg Minder, which alerts consumers when their eggs are going bad. The Woodsam Digital Kitchen Scales weighs food for appropriate meal portions and the SmartPlate, which is still in development, will help weigh and analyze food intake. Even with the technology, Smith said it is up to the consumer to stay dedicated to making healthy choices. “It’s still a choice — so behind all of these gadgets there still needs to be the person who wants to make the choice to eat healthy, who is going be committed to it,” Smith said.
